Bohlsen Eatery 'Monsoon' Opening in Early 2012

The 275-seat restaurant's menu is said to bridge the gap between authentic Vietnamese, Chinese and Thai.

The Bohlsen Restaurant Group plans to open the doors to its new Babylon Village eatery, at the site of the old Bank of NY Building, in early 2012 under the name Monsoon.

It’s the first Asian restaurant for the Bohlsen Group, and the Deer Park Avenue site has been under renovation since early this year.

The name, according to a press release, represents a wind of change in concept and menu for the Bohlsen family. It is the group’s first Asian restaurant and the sixth in its portfolio of leading Long Island restaurants including Tellers Chophouse and Beachtree in East Islip.

Bohlsen brothers Michael and Kurt said they based their vision for Monsoon on what they believe diners will want next.

“We believe the restaurant experience is no longer simply the stop before the night out," Michael Bohlsen said in a press statement. "We see our guests enjoying a fine meal in a fine venue but also one that provides fine entertainment, be it live music before the meal, late night DJ afterwards, a view of the action in the kitchen or a movie along the harbor."

According to the company, the building will be lit like a jewel box with its large gray stone expanses illuminated with bright, white light and large glass windows.

“Inside will be a light show worthy of the Vanderbilt Planetarium, an entertainment package to engage ones senses, and, a bar with two enormous chandeliers," the release states

“Monsoon bridges the gap between authentic Vietnamese, Chinese and Thai- and what Long Islanders love most about modern Asian cuisine,” according to the release.

The menu will include Millionaire’s Curry Crab from the best street restaurant in Bangkok, Bahn Xeo and Shaking Beef from Vietnam, and Hong Kong’s Under the Bridge Chili Crab.
