UPDATED: Online Fundraiser Set Up For Lopez's Family

Campaign looking to raise $10,000 for the family of fallen Babylon Village officer gunned down Tuesday.

Update (10 p.m.): 

The Nassau County Patrolmen's Benevolent Association announced earlier they did not officially back this campaign, but the PBA did announce their own memorial fund in honor of Lopez. In turn, the online fund has been stopped and asks that all future donations be made to the PBA.

All checks should be made payable to the PO Arthur Lopez Memorial Fund and mailed to the PBA Office at 89 East Jericho Turnpike in Mineola.

An online fundraiser has been set up to raise money for the family of Nassau County Police Officer Arthur Lopez after he was gunned down in Queens on Tuesday morning.

The "Arthur Lopez Memorial Fundraiser" has been set up on the website Indiegogo, a fundraising site similar to others like Kickstarter. The campaign was set up by Queens resident Daniel Linares and Long Island native Craig Anderson, both of whom have friends affected by the loss of Officer Lopez, a Babylon Village resident.

The current campaign has 61 days left as of October 24th and is scheduled to end at the stroke of midnight on Christmas Eve – December 24th. The Memorial Fund, which has also started a Facebook page and Twitter account to memorialize the fallen officer.

That page, "Arthur Lopez Memorial," has already racked up over 24,600 likes in less than 24 hours online.

"It's terrible losing a loved one and therefore I wanted to help," wrote Linares on the campaign page.

The goal currently has been set at $10,000 and $680 has been raised in the short time the campaign has been active. Donations can be taken in the form of PayPal accounts or credit cards.
