Viewfinder: A Ride Through Babylon's History

Trolley tours led by Babylon's Old Town Hall Museum brought residents back in time, with a multi-hamlet bus ride and history lesson.

The Town of Babylon's trolley years, although long gone, have left their mark around Babylon Village, West Babylon and Lindenhurst, in street names, unusual home deeds, and modern-day public transportation routes.

To commemorate that history the Babylon Town History Museum recently led a series of "trolley" bus tours following the old Babylon Railroad Company line.

Tickets for the hour-long narrated drives were sold out this past Sunday, as residents eager to reminiscence about long-forgotten landarks or maybe learn about them for the first time, gathered at the museum's Main Street location.

During the tour Mary Cascone, town archivist and Georgia Cava, assistant historian, shared their encyclopedic knowledge of the history of Babylon with riders.

Patch took a photographic tour of the trolley line ride, which linked Babylon Village docks with the Babylon Village train station before heading to Lindenhurst and Amityville stations, traveling along Trolley Line Road and Oak Street.
