10 Things People Want To See Happen in Babylon

On Thursday we asked Babylon Village Patch Facebook readers to comment on "It's a new year, and a chance for improvements. What changes do you want to see in Deer Park-North Babylon in 2014?"

Here are their wishes for 2014:
  • Do not allow another Santacon! Why should a pup crawl of obnoxious half drunk people be allowed and take away from shopping the small businesses?!
  • Stop ignoring the kids in the community.
  • An indoor pool! PLEASE
  • Lower taxes
  • I'd like to see the Board of Education pass a resolution against high stakes testing!
  • South Bay theater needs a revamp!!!!!
  • I'd like a skate park with ramps for the kids. How about that space off George Street where there's a dog run? How come dogs can get their own play area and not our kids? I'd rather see them there than doing their tricks on business sidewalks.
  • Fix the drains on Cedar Lane so the streets stop flooding
  • I'd like to see Village Security more present in Argyle Park and I'd like to see the drain in the corner by the high school raised. The road has been paved so any times that the drain is about 8" lower then the road creating a hazard for drivers.
  • The counting cross walks are annoying

The counting crosswalks are great! I'd like to see them at every crosswalk on Long Island and have them activated when the traffic turns, not only when the button is pushed.

I would love to see a light put up by Babylon High School. There are cars coming from four directions and no one seems to know when to go and when to wait!

I am in complete agreement with Julianna. I don't know how many accidents there are there, but it is always a dodgy situation.

No more Santacons! If necessary require organizers and sites that participate to have permits-

When is some authority (village or county) going to do something about speeders on DPA? The 30 mph village speed limit is a joke on this road as cars travel upwards of 60 mph. It's like having sunrise highway running through the middle of our community.

Some more speed control along Arnold Avenue. Maybe a traffic light at Albin Avenue or at Elmwood Road.
