5 Things to Know: July 24th

Hot weather makes another appearance, but the rain should leave for a wonderful Tuesday.

1. Tuesday is here again with the summer heat making another attempt on the area. Today's high for Babylon Village is forecasted at 90 degrees with a slight chance of thunderstorms during the day. Most likely to see partly cloudy skies and humid heat all day making for a pretty, but extremely warm day.

2. If you are entering grades 6-12 in the West Babylon School District and can volunteer for at least one four-week session to help a child read, then you can be a at the West Babylon Public Library. Sign up at 12:00 p.m. at the circulation desk to get started.

3. Have you ever wondered ?  Jane Matti will be at the Babylon Public Library to discuss these symbols and perhaps even interpret the dreams of a few audience members at 6:30 p.m.

4. The Babylon Village Board of Trustees will hold a regular meeting at Babylon Village Hall at 8:00 p.m.

5. The Babylon Town Hall will play host to a free outdoor screening of the hit children's movie  at 8:30 p.m. Pack lawn chairs and blankets so you can sit on the town hall lawn! This is the raindate – no planned day in case of second storm.

As I explained, my post was made on behalf of another village resident. However, I did take theRead More time to read the statute and do have an independent viewpoint on this subject. While I do not feel that all dogs require a muzzle at all times, if you have a dog that you know to be a threat to other dogs or humans, you would have a duty to take measures to eliminate that threat before bring that dog into public. If that measure is a muzzle, then that's what must be done. As my post indicated, I believe strict enforcement would be exceedingly difficult and, perhaps, unnecessary (at least with respect to the muzzle requirement). However, a total lack of enforcement is dangerous and unacceptable. I think a little common sense goes a long way and I have confidence that those charged with enforcing the Village code could do so selectively. I understand that selective enforcement may be a concept that many feel uncomfortable with. However, just because the law requires a muzzle, that is hardly a reason to disregard it in its entirety and allow dogs with vicious propensities to roam around unleashed. I will leave it up to Village lawmakers to remove the muzzle requirement (and suggest that they do so) if that is what it would take to make people comfortable with the leash requirement.

Did you read the law? unless it be properly muzzled and effectively restrained by a chain or leashRead More I'll bet neither dog was muzzled Do you really want them to enforce this law
