5 Things to Know: July 26th

Stormy skies will reappear, but there's always a lot to do around the village.

1. There goes the great weather – stormy skies move back in today with chances of thunderstorms building throughout the day. Forecasted highs in Babylon Village are for around 84 degrees. As the afternoon rolls on, keep your eyes peeled on the skies for popup thunderstorms that could be possibly severe.

2. Send the kids off to at Cedar Beach Marina! Campers ages 6-12 will explore Long Island’s marine habitats on the beautiful south shore beaches in Babylon. Unique specialized sessions for ages 6-8 and for 9-12 offered by Cornell educators. US Coast Guard visits campers to teach marine safety and protecting the waters from pollution. Each week costs $225 and starts at 9:00 a.m.

3. A will be at West Babylon Public Library to help seniors with Medicaid, senior ID cards, food stamps and re-certifications. Patrons will be served on a first come, first served basis starting at 1:00 p.m.

4. Learn how to get started discovering your ancestry and building your family tree with at Babylon Public Library. Librarian Inez Foster will discuss the steps necessary to help you on your way.

5. Get to know your future a bit better with a  by Claire at the Babylon Bean starting at 7:30 p.m.

As I explained, my post was made on behalf of another village resident. However, I did take theRead More time to read the statute and do have an independent viewpoint on this subject. While I do not feel that all dogs require a muzzle at all times, if you have a dog that you know to be a threat to other dogs or humans, you would have a duty to take measures to eliminate that threat before bring that dog into public. If that measure is a muzzle, then that's what must be done. As my post indicated, I believe strict enforcement would be exceedingly difficult and, perhaps, unnecessary (at least with respect to the muzzle requirement). However, a total lack of enforcement is dangerous and unacceptable. I think a little common sense goes a long way and I have confidence that those charged with enforcing the Village code could do so selectively. I understand that selective enforcement may be a concept that many feel uncomfortable with. However, just because the law requires a muzzle, that is hardly a reason to disregard it in its entirety and allow dogs with vicious propensities to roam around unleashed. I will leave it up to Village lawmakers to remove the muzzle requirement (and suggest that they do so) if that is what it would take to make people comfortable with the leash requirement.
