Babylon DPW Crews Are Out Sanding & Salting (Video)

Officials say crews are focusing on keeping the roads 'safe and driveable' during today's snowfall - the first of the season.

The Town of Babylon Department of Public Works has been out since early Saturday morning keeping the roads clear, according to town officials.

"DPW crews were mobilized at 6 a.m. this morning," said Tim Ruggeri, a town spokesperson. "We got out early, and we've been focusing on sanding and salting the roads as soon as possible.”.

"We're just making sure that the roads are safe and driveable. And most of the streets have been sanded and salted," he said, adding, "The entire fleet is up and running today."

The town advises residents to stay home unless they absolutely must go out.

"As always they should stay off the roads unless it's absolutely necessary," Ruggeri said, who noted that, "Thankfully, it doesn't look like it's going to be a major snow event."
