A fundraiser being based of West Babylon is attempting to raise money to help abused and neglected animals.

West Babylon resident Tracey Bussman Kuhn began the fundraiser on December 29, 2013 on GoFundMe in honor of Pearl, a dog that was allegedly beaten to death with a baseball bat by a Dix Hills man.

"In her memory, we have set up 'Pearl's Fund,'" Kuhn wrote on the GoFundMe donation page. "100 percent of all donations will be used to help pay for the medical care of abandoned, abused and neglected animals."

Kuhn, along with her friend Sandy Schulze of Blue Point, began a Facebook page after hearing about the abuse of Pearl, raising some $5,000 to help provide emergency care for the dog. Pearl, unfortunately, was euthanized on December 28 due to her severe injuries.

"Very much like Pearl, when an animal is harmed by their owners, they often have nobody to see that their medical expenses are paid for. Therefore, many go without the necessary medical care needed for them to recover," Kuhn wrote.

The group is seeking to raise $10,000 as a starting point to help other animals that have been abused or neglected by their owners.
