Hurricane Doesn't Put a Damper on One Couple's Love for Village

Despite thigh-high floods and water surges, many residents were happy Hurricane Irene landed as a tropical storm.

Ruth and Anthony Grusel took time out Sunday to walk their neighborhood to assess damage. The Lewis Circle residents found themselves thigh-high deep in water at the corner of Lewis Circle and Fire Island Ave.

They sent a picture of their travels to Patch with a short note:

"We are just so happy it was not worse! We were not here for Gloria but previous owners had records of it for us and it looked bad! We moved here eight years ago and know it's a little piece of heaven! We expected the worse so are so grateful for the minor damages from floods that got in and thank God for no catastrophes!! Babylon is the greatest village to live in!!
