Patch checked in with local village shop owners to find out how the tropical storm impacted sales during one of the busiest shopping times.

Hurricane Irene struck a little fear in everyone on Long Island. While residents worried about flooding and wind damage, storeowners were likely stressed about the storm's impact to sales going into the big back-to-school sales time.
