Locals Tell Us Where Stop Signs Are Needed in Town

We asked which roads you think help is needed.

On Monday, we asked readers to tell us which roads in the area were in desperate need of a stop sign. Many responded with their suggestions of local roads where they have seen too many accidents or people are speeding and need to be slowed down.

Many people suggested road with Park Avenue and many of its cross streets a top suggestion. North Carll, Railroad Avenue and Fire Island Avenue were also popular places people said needed stop signs. Others said stop signs get ignored and there needs to be traffic lights at troublesome corners.

Here is a sample of what people told us:

Timothy Noonan: Add one to every corner on Beachwood Drive. It is a cut through street and folks drive too fast on this street. Also add one on Park ave at Ralph Ave.

Paul: Cedar lane and fire island ave - a lot of families and children cross the street there to use the playground. Has become a dangerous intersection with people speeding headed south

Scott Knyper: Without a doubt, there should be a four way stop at the intersection of park avenue and Livingston avenue. It's a block from the schools and can be an impossible block to cross at times. I live on Livingston and say that there needs to be a stop sign every time I'm there.

Janet Reeves: Why??? No one stops at them anyway!! But there should be traffic lights at: Trolley Line and Litchfield; Trolley Line and No. Carll; Deer Park Ave and Railroad Ave/George St. After all there is a traffic light at Reid Ave/Virginia Ave and Fire Island Ave and that doesn't see HALF the traffic as these other hot spots.

Ben Bring: I think it needs to go further to street lights. I see people just blow stop signs all the time especially in the later hour. Motorcyclists unfortunately lead that pack when it comes to this.

Rich Meyerson: What difference does it make? They don't stop at the ones that are out there now.

Jeffrey Anthony: Down south by the intersection of Virginia Rd X Fire Island avenue, so they can take that stupid light out.

Chuck Reeves: Take that light and put it at DPA and Railroad!

Victoria Ninivaggi Marsiglia: North Carll and Railroad ave either needs a 4 way stop sign or a traffic light!

Drew Bidart: Livingston and Park.

Joey Ponzo: Deer Park Avenue & Railroad Avenue needs a light...badly.

Patrick Milligan: They need to make the intersection at railroad ave and carll a 4 way stop by the high school

Dan King: doesnt matter I have a stop sign in front of my house on a corner and nobody stops for it even when kids are playing on the field.

Linda Lalegian-Parlow: Deer Park Avenue and any side street north of the village but south of Sunrise Highway. How about Village Line Road? Need to slow down the speeders.

Heidi Durler: North Stuart and Dundee!
