Free Mold Remediation Program Set for Sandy Victims

The American Red Cross and the Community Development Corporation of Long Island have teamed up to provide free mold remediation to homeowners affected by Hurricane Sandy last October.

The American Red Cross granted $2 million and the Robin Hood Foundation also made a commitment to get the program underway.

Sandy Volunteer Monument Unveiled by Town at Tanner Park

The Town of Babylon celebrated the power of its community and the hard work of volunteers following the wrath of Hurricane Sandy, dedicating a monument at Tanner Park in Copiague on Saturday nearly a year after the storm made landfall in the northeast.

"Literally the day after, people starting coming out of their homes and springing up – those people who didn't live in the affected area and setting up tables with food and supplies," said Babylon Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer. "These groups sprung up across our town... if we didn't have the kindness and generosity and creativity of all these groups of how to pull together... they were a lifeline to so many people ."

White Iris Florist Closes Its Doors

White Iris Florist, a longtime florist located on Deer Park Avenue in Babylon Village, has closed its doors after many years in business.

AroundBabylon blogger Aaron Stein noticed the storefront had been shuttered last week after serving the village for at least the last decade.

Must Be V Closes After Three Years in Babylon

The women's clothing boutique Must Be V has closed up its storefront on Deer Park Avenue around three years after opening in the village.

The storefront, normally filled with merchandise and lit up brightly, has been mostly emptied and darkened the last few days this week, leading to speculation that the business was no longer open.

Amityville's Baskets Galore to Replace The Village Basket

No one is Babylon is going to have go much further to get custom made basket gifts – an Amityville basket shop will be taking over The Village Basket's storefront starting next week.

Baskets Galore, currently located at 178 Broadway in Amityville, will move into the storefront at 59 Deer Park Avenue in Babylon Village starting November 5, according to a sign hanging in the storefront on Thursday.
