Residents Get Social to Share Quake Experiences

Facebook, Twitter posts are fast and furious following earthquake fall-out experience Tuesday afternoon.

In a clear sign of how technology is deeply woven into many residents' daily lives, Babylon natives took to Facebook and Twitter to tweet and post short bursts of feedback on Tuesday afternoon's earthquake event.

Gary W., working out at Brookhaven National Lab, posted on the popular blog/Facebook site of AroundBabylon to say he initially thought the building's shaky movements were due to a nearby construction vehicle.

Aaron Stein, AroundBabylon's founder and moderator, asked the simple question: "Earthquake in the Village? everybody from all the buildings around us, including us, just experienced a shaking of the building itself. scared the daylights out of us."

Stein, president of Norton & Siegel Insurance, also took a few minutes to remind readers that an earthquake is excluded under most homeowners insurance policies but can be added for a relatively small charge.

"For now, anyway. if losses actually start happening around here, the coverage will get much more expensive," he posted.
