School Board Honors Top Class of 2013 Students

Class valedictorian and salutatorian honored by school board for their achievements.

After 13 years of hard work and attention to their academic studies, Babylon High School seniors Delaney Cassidy and Kerry Glenday were named the Class of 2013 valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively. 

In recognition of this commendable achievement, the district’s Board of Education paid special tribute to these talented students during their June meeting and presented each with a commemorative plaque.

After offering congratulatory words to the students on this academic accomplishment, Superintendent of Schools Richard Rozakis shared some details on the scholars’ individual accomplishments.

Delaney, a multifaceted individual, not only is dedicated to academics but is also invested in giving back to her school and community. She works at the Town of Babylon Department of Environmental Control as an environmental intern, is the student editor for the “Save the Beaches” newsletter and volunteers to help preserve the barrier beaches of Long Island. 

She competes on the varsity lacrosse, varsity cross-country and varsity track and field teams; serves as secretary of DECA, secretary of the Leo Club and captain of the Math Club and Science Club; and is a member of the National Spanish Honor Society, National Business Honor Society, Tri-M National Honor Society, Student Council and Class Cabinet. She has won numerous awards through NYSSMA, SCMEA and DECA, and is also an AP Scholar and Dartmouth Book Award winner. After graduating with a weighted GPA of 103.67, she will attend Worcester Polytechnic Institute and major in biomedical engineering.

Kerry, one of Babylon's most versatile and naturally talented athletes, is captain of the varsity field hockey, varsity lacrosse and varsity winter track teams. She is also an avid competitor at the Islanders Aquatic Swim Club. Kerry is a six-letter varsity award recipient, having played more than six varsity sports throughout her high school career.

In addition to her athletic accomplishments, She serves as treasurer of DECA, and is a member of the National Honor Society, National Business Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, National Science Honor Society, Student Council and Class Cabinet. After graduation with a weighted GPA of 102.97, she will attend the University of Tampa and major in business.
