UPDATE: LIRR Service Remains Suspended

The MTA and Long Island Rail Road are recommending residents remain at home as trains are still not running as of 1 p.m.

The MTA and Long Island Rail Road have issued a winter weather service advisory and trains are still not running since service was suspended shortly near midnight..

"There are major suspensions across our transportation network that may continue through the morning rush hour, including a full suspension of service on the Long Island Rail Road, suspension of Metro-North Railroad's New Haven Line, and suspension of several of the lettered subway lines," states an advisory on the MTA's web page.

"For your safety and the safety of our employees and equipment, please plan on staying home this morning unless it is urgent that you travel," the advisory states.

The LIRR advisory states  passenger service is still  suspended systemwide in both directions.

"This suspension continues until safe and reliable service can be restored. LIRR personnel are working to clear snow from the switches and tracks, however high wind gusts and drifting snow are making the recovery efforts challenging," states the latest LIRR advisory on site as of 1 p.m. Monday.

The LIRR said personnel are working to clear snow from the switches and tracks, but that the high wind gusts and drifting snow are making the recovery efforts "extremely challenging."

A number of stalled and stranded autos on LIRR tracks have hampered the recovery efforts, says the LIRR.
