Thunderstorm Knocks Out Power to 180+ W. Babylon Homes

Power expected to be restored to customers by around noon on Tuesday.

A strong thunderstorm pushed through the area earlier this morning knocking out power to over 180 homes in West Babylon and dumping heavy rains across the Island.

West Babylon currently has 182 homes in the dark after a storm ripped through the area at around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The 8:30 a.m. update from LIPA's website says power should be restored to the area by 12 p.m. tonight.

West Babylon's 182 customers are among the 1,500 Island-wide without power right now. Estimated times Island-wide for power to return range from a few hours to as late as 12 p.m.

More thunderstorms could be headed this way as a cold front pushes across the area, clearing out the humidity the island has seen in the last few days.
