Town Plowing Update: Side Streets, Dead-Ends Still Being Tackled

4:30 p.m. Update from the town: "More than a dozen plows still out working on clearing and cleaning up side streets and dead-ends.  Over 20 large sand and salt trucks out blanketing every road.  Salt and sanding will continue overnight and tomorrow, as near-zero temperatures are expected to persist for at least the next 48 hours, meaning a dangerous layer of compacted ice will remain on many roads."

Original story:

Town of Babylon officials said that as of Wednesday morning all primary and secondary town roads have received multiple plow passes.

"Currently side streets, dead ends and cul-de-sacs are being addressed," the town said in a statement.

With temperatures struggling to get out of the single digits Wednesday, salt/sand have been rendered ineffective on the roadways because of a think layer of ice on most roads, officials said.

Officials urged extreme caution on the roadways if travel is necessary as the continuing arctic weather will result in icy roads over the next couple of days.
