Village Viewfinder: Ospreys Returning to Babylon

Spring is in the air – and so are the returning wildlife!

The signs of spring are all around us: green leaves, colorful flowers and many animals returning to Long Island for breeding season.

Local photographer Flo Siemsen caught this Osprey while attending her daughter's softball game earlier this week. The osprey reportedly dove into one of our nearby creeks, snatching up a fish for dinner.

Ospreys are commonly found on Long Island during the spring, primarily for mating season before heading to more tropical climates like Florida for the summer.

Thanks Flo for sending us these shots – don't forget to upload anything you see to our Boards, it could be our Photo of the Day!
