Portion of Ocean Parkway Dunes Swept Away by Weekend Storm

A recently repaired portion of the Ocean Parkway dunes near Gilgo Beach was back into the ocean after pounding waves caused by an offshore storm system washed away the ground near the roadway.

The Ocean Parkway was heavily damaged by storm surge from Hurricane Sandy last October, closing the roadway for months as crews worked around the clock to fix the road after it collapsed into the ocean.

Divine Rhythms Dance Studio Moves to West Islip


Divine Rhythms Dance Studiomoved to West Islip last month after spending the last ten years in Babylon Village.

The two-floor studio on Cooper Street was one of only two dance studios in the village and featured many of our community's young men and women.

Babylon Hate Crime Case Adjourned Until December


The court case against four Oceanside men charged with a hate crime and gang assault after allegedly beating two men on Deer Park Avenue in Babylon Village earlier this past summer has been adjourned until December 6.

The four men – Gregory Gilbert, 20; Shane Buckley, 18; Nicholas Battaglia, 18; and Justin Buckley, 17, all from Oceanside – were walking on Deer Park Avenue near the Park Avenue Laundromat at around 3:30 a.m. on July 23 when the group asked two men for directions to the Long Island Rail Road station, Suffolk County Police told Patch in July.

New Athletic Fields, Arts Rooms, Lab Included in $26.6M Bond Proposal


The Babylon Board of Education, along with the district's architecture firm, unveiled a $26.6 million bond proposal during a workshop presentation at Babylon Junior-Senior High School on Wednesday night.

The plan includes an overhaul to all three district buildings, including roof and window fixes, infrastructure repair and brand-new additions for academic and athletics.

Second Arrest Made in Babylon Teen's Attempt to Join Al-Qaida


A second Long Island man has been arrested in connection with a plot to join the terrorist organization Al-Qaida in 2012, according to the United States Department of Justice.

Marcos Alonso Zea, also known as "Ali Zea," 25, of Brentwood, was charged with conspiracy to commit murder in a foreign country, attempting to provide material support to terrorists and attempting to provide material support to al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula.
