Weekend Planner: Charity Walk Events, Auction for the Arts

A soggy weekend will show many brightspots with great event throughout Babylon.

Patch Forecast – Get ready for a soggy weekend. Heavy rain moves in Friday and showers will linger into the beginning of the next week, so get out the umbrellas and rain gear. Babylon Village will see highs in the lower 70s throughout the entire week.

Friday

The Bean will host its weekly Real Music Fridays. Listen to the acoustic sounds of JP Noonan and have the beautiful physchic Marie tell your futures by reading tarot cards. Doors open at 7:30pm.

Looking for a party on Friday night? Head to theBabylon Carriage House for Fridays with DJ TJ and Claudio D. Great food and enterainment will be provided all night long.

Saturday

The ALS Association Greater New York Chapter will host the 12th Annual Walk to Defeat ALS fundraiser on Long Island on Saturday, Sept. 29, 10:30 a.m., at Eisenhower Park, East Meadow, NY.

Kaplan Test Prep will be at West Babylon Public Library at 12:15 p.m. to administer practice tests for the SAT and ACT on Saturday so you can experience both tests to determine which one is right for you.

The Babylon High School Boys Varsity Soccer team will head out east to take on Hampton Bays at 4:30 p.m.

The Babylon High School Varsity Football team will take its perfect 3-0 record to the field out east against Mount Sinai at 2 p.m.

Sunday

The 7th Annual Caitlin Boyle Memorial Bike Ride will take place September 30th at 10 a.m. at the Babylon Grade School on a 6 mile bike ride through the Babylon horse trails. All proceeds will go to the Meningitis Foundation of America and the Caitlin Boyle Memorial Scholarship at Marist. 

The Babylon Village Arts Council, a local cultural arts organization, will hold its first "Auction for the Arts" on September 30.  Preview is from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Live auction begin at 3 p.m. Proceeds will be used to support the varied cultural art programs presented in the Babylon Village community.

As I explained, my post was made on behalf of another village resident. However, I did take theRead More time to read the statute and do have an independent viewpoint on this subject. While I do not feel that all dogs require a muzzle at all times, if you have a dog that you know to be a threat to other dogs or humans, you would have a duty to take measures to eliminate that threat before bring that dog into public. If that measure is a muzzle, then that's what must be done. As my post indicated, I believe strict enforcement would be exceedingly difficult and, perhaps, unnecessary (at least with respect to the muzzle requirement). However, a total lack of enforcement is dangerous and unacceptable. I think a little common sense goes a long way and I have confidence that those charged with enforcing the Village code could do so selectively. I understand that selective enforcement may be a concept that many feel uncomfortable with. However, just because the law requires a muzzle, that is hardly a reason to disregard it in its entirety and allow dogs with vicious propensities to roam around unleashed. I will leave it up to Village lawmakers to remove the muzzle requirement (and suggest that they do so) if that is what it would take to make people comfortable with the leash requirement.
