Weekend Planner: Playoff Football, Monsoon/Rotary Charity Event

The weekend will bring more of the same clear, sunny and cool weather.

Patch Forecast – The entire weekend will continue the trend of cooling down while staying absolutely clear and sunny. Expect mostly sunny skies all weekend and highs from Friday through Sunday in or around 52° in Babylon Village. To also quell some rumors of a storm for next week – models are showing little-to-no chance of any storms during the Thanksgiving week, so be thankful for that.

Friday

Monsoon Asian Kitchen and the Babylon Rotary Club are teaming up for a charity event to help Babylon residents recover from Hurricane Sandy. Cocktails for the Community will start at 5 p.m. and include half-price drinks, special $25 three-course dinner menu and a suggested $10 donation to the Rotary Club's relief organization and a chance to win prizes.

Head out the Babylon Bean Coffee House to get some real jams – "For Real Music" Fridays are on starting at 8 p.m. with J.P. Noonan taking your requests all night long. Don't forget to have your tarot cards read while there – the beautiful psychic Marie will be telling your future while the music plays.

Saturday

The Town of Babylon's Farmer's Market will be held at the parking lot at Oak Street and Great Neck Road in Copiague starting at 8 a.m. Join the fun for all the local grower's freshest produce!

Panthers Playoff Fever continues as the Babylon Panthers Football Team (9-0) takes on Mercy-McGann at Babylon High School at 1 p.m. in the semifinals for the Suffolk County Division IV Championship. Admission, as always, is free!

Join Tanger Outlets at the Arches to deck the halls – the outlets will host a Holiday Tree Lighting Festival starting at 3 p.m. Santa will arrive soon after and be joined by the Radio City Rockettes.

Sunday

Babylon Village will host the last Farmer's Market for 2012 on Sunday outside of Railroad Express Bagels and the LIRR station. The market will feature the best organic food grown from nearby farms – milk, produce, bread, chesse, wine, beers, baked goods, dips, jams and all items are certified to be organic. The market kicks off at 8:00 a.m.!

As I explained, my post was made on behalf of another village resident. However, I did take theRead More time to read the statute and do have an independent viewpoint on this subject. While I do not feel that all dogs require a muzzle at all times, if you have a dog that you know to be a threat to other dogs or humans, you would have a duty to take measures to eliminate that threat before bring that dog into public. If that measure is a muzzle, then that's what must be done. As my post indicated, I believe strict enforcement would be exceedingly difficult and, perhaps, unnecessary (at least with respect to the muzzle requirement). However, a total lack of enforcement is dangerous and unacceptable. I think a little common sense goes a long way and I have confidence that those charged with enforcing the Village code could do so selectively. I understand that selective enforcement may be a concept that many feel uncomfortable with. However, just because the law requires a muzzle, that is hardly a reason to disregard it in its entirety and allow dogs with vicious propensities to roam around unleashed. I will leave it up to Village lawmakers to remove the muzzle requirement (and suggest that they do so) if that is what it would take to make people comfortable with the leash requirement.
