Weekend Planner: Pottery Sale, Holiday Events

The weekend will start out beautiful before turning soggy and cooler.

Patch Forecast – Friday will be a beautiful start the weekend with mostly sunny conditions and a warmer high of 51° during the day and Saturday will follow it up with a partly cloudy day and a high of 47°, but the trouble starts there. A storm system moves in during the nighttime, possibly starting as snow before turning over to a cold rain for Saturday evening throughout the rest of the weekend. Sunday's high will be 47°.

Ooh La La will be holding a 12 Deals of Christmas sale from now through the 25th. Head into the store to see the big discounts or check this event posting for the details!

Pandemonium Boutique is adding a special to the Toys for Tots drive – get 25% off any one items when you donate a toy!

Santa Claus will be visiting Deja Vu on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and all visiting children will get a free toy! And for the parents – 20% off everything in the store!

The Town of Babylon Chamber of Commerce will be holding their Monthly Meeting this Friday at the Olympic Diner in Deer Park. Cost for a meal is $10.00, however, the event is free to attend and no meals are necessary. The meeting will get underway at 7 a.m.

Enjoy some school sports before students take off for the holiday break with the Girls Varsity Basketball team, taking the court against Hampton Bays on Saturday at 6:15 p.m. at Babylon Junior-Senior High School. These games, as always, are free to the public.

Join Babylon Public Library for a fun family program and together make your own family gingerbread house. For families with children 3 years old through 5th grade. The event, for Babylon cardholders only, gets underway at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Babylon Village resident and pottery maker will offer his recent work for sale at his home on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m..  50% of proceeds will be contributed to the Rotary Club Fund for Hurricane Sandy Relief.

Four Choirs will present "" at the 96th Annual Service of Candlelight at the United Methodist Church in Babylon on Sunday evening at 5 p.m. The event is open to the public.

As I explained, my post was made on behalf of another village resident. However, I did take theRead More time to read the statute and do have an independent viewpoint on this subject. While I do not feel that all dogs require a muzzle at all times, if you have a dog that you know to be a threat to other dogs or humans, you would have a duty to take measures to eliminate that threat before bring that dog into public. If that measure is a muzzle, then that's what must be done. As my post indicated, I believe strict enforcement would be exceedingly difficult and, perhaps, unnecessary (at least with respect to the muzzle requirement). However, a total lack of enforcement is dangerous and unacceptable. I think a little common sense goes a long way and I have confidence that those charged with enforcing the Village code could do so selectively. I understand that selective enforcement may be a concept that many feel uncomfortable with. However, just because the law requires a muzzle, that is hardly a reason to disregard it in its entirety and allow dogs with vicious propensities to roam around unleashed. I will leave it up to Village lawmakers to remove the muzzle requirement (and suggest that they do so) if that is what it would take to make people comfortable with the leash requirement.
