Weekend Planner: Tons of Concerts, Poetry Readings

If you ever had a summer weekend to make your ears happy, it will have to be this week's with five concerts!

Friday

The Town of Babylon will be hosting the next in its lineup of with "Let's Hang On" at Tanner Park starting at 7:00 p.m. The Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons cover band will be playing the group's big hits like "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Sherry," "Oh, What a Night" and, of course, "Let's Hang On!" The concert is free for all.

The James Street Players will be putting on one of the all time great play's, William Shakespeare's at their headquarters in Babylon at 8:00 p.m. Come see local actors perform the legendary play for only $15.00!

One Friday concert wasn't enough? Head back to Babylon's Conklin House to see another great show starting at 8:00 p.m. featuring . The band will be playing their own music as well as classic R&B, rockabilly, blues and country music. The event is open and free for all.

Saturday

Babylon Village will be holding another Sidewalk Sale starting at 10:00 a.m. Local stores will be displaying and discounting merchandise throughout the day. Spend the day in the village and support local businesses!

We've got more music – The Tanger Outlets at The Arches in Deer Park will play host to a big name in music – , winner of American Idol: Season 8 will take the stage and perform starting at 6:00 p.m. The event is open to all and free.

Feeling like a visit to the beach is more your style? More music to be heard there as well! , a Long Island-based rock and funk band, will be performing at Cedar Beach's Beach Hut starting at 6:00 p.m.

Sunday

Babylon Village will play host to its weekly on the north side of the LIRR Parking Lot. The market officially opens at 8:00 a.m. and features a wide variety of organic vegetables, fresh milk, brewers and much more!

Get out and see Long Island from the Great South Bay – will be departing from Captree State Park on the Delta Lady Paddlewheel Boat starting at 1:00 p.m. $15.00 per person gets you an hour and a half long trip.

Listen to local poets take the stage at All The Perks Expresso Cafe in West Babylon. Featured poets will be showing up weekly to read their work starting at 7:00 p.m. Come grab a great cup of cappuccino and celebrate the English language.

As I explained, my post was made on behalf of another village resident. However, I did take theRead More time to read the statute and do have an independent viewpoint on this subject. While I do not feel that all dogs require a muzzle at all times, if you have a dog that you know to be a threat to other dogs or humans, you would have a duty to take measures to eliminate that threat before bring that dog into public. If that measure is a muzzle, then that's what must be done. As my post indicated, I believe strict enforcement would be exceedingly difficult and, perhaps, unnecessary (at least with respect to the muzzle requirement). However, a total lack of enforcement is dangerous and unacceptable. I think a little common sense goes a long way and I have confidence that those charged with enforcing the Village code could do so selectively. I understand that selective enforcement may be a concept that many feel uncomfortable with. However, just because the law requires a muzzle, that is hardly a reason to disregard it in its entirety and allow dogs with vicious propensities to roam around unleashed. I will leave it up to Village lawmakers to remove the muzzle requirement (and suggest that they do so) if that is what it would take to make people comfortable with the leash requirement.
