2nd Thursday Concert Series

The Babylon Village Arts Council will presents its  2nd Thursday Concert Series on April 14 featuring the J. Walter Hawkes Trio at Astoria Federal Savings Bank. located at 180 West Main St.  J. Walter Hawkes, singer, songwriter, composer, trombone and ukulele player, is a very versatile young man. His music is heavily influenced by the swing era of jazz. His repertoire is a mix of the popular songs of the swing era, his original music and updated versions of great standards.  His rendition of “What Can I Say After I Say I’m Sorry?” borrows much from Ella Fitzgerald’s rendi- tion, yet is uniquely  charming. Whether he’s playing the trombone  or the uke lele, the accompaniment is perfectly tempered to fit the song. On his lighter side, he composes music for children’s TV programs such as the Disney Channel, Nickelodeon’s Wonder Pets (for which he  has won an Emmy) and Blues Clues. He lives in Long Island City and can be heard in many of the clubs in Manhattan, performing as a duo,  a trio, and with big bands.  This free concert begins at 7:30 and is made possible through public funds through Suffolk County Executive Office.
