#87 - Village Pub Crawl

Explore Babylon Village, one drink at a time.

It's not just dining that makes a downtown hot: for a vibrant after-dark scene, any good town center needs a healthy dose of libations, and a main street crowded with pubs calls for a good bar crawl. The idea is simple: make your way from Point A to Point B, stopping for a pint or a glass at each location.

First, pick your night: Thursday skews younger with college and post-college-aged revelers. Saturday brings out a more mature dinner and after-dinner drinking crowd. Sunday is for locals or bar and restaurant workers themselves, or anyone who doesn't have to be anywhere early Monday morning.

Any Babylon Village crawl should hit at least some of the main spots. Start off at Barrique for the sophisticated crowd enjoying wine tastings in the dimly-lit bar area. Sit at the bar and share a small plate or two to fuel the rest of the night. is a great choice for early in the night as well: grab a comfy seat around the fireplace and choose from one of 18 beer varieties on tap. The clientele is a nice village mix of young and old.

If you're looking for something a bit less sedate, make your way toward Irish pub or . You can enjoy an impromptu Babylon High School reunion at either. For a flashier dance scene finish the night off at and . Just don't blame us if by then your pub walk is more of a pub stumble.

Come back next week for suggestion #86. Click here for the rest of the countdown.

Category: Dining and bars
Season:  Any, but summer warm nights are ideal for nighttime strolling of the village.
Note:  Although Babylon Village is a great place to have fun in, public drunkenness and antics are never appreciated. And don't forget to arrange ahead for a ride home or call a cab after your big night.

As I explained, my post was made on behalf of another village resident. However, I did take theRead More time to read the statute and do have an independent viewpoint on this subject. While I do not feel that all dogs require a muzzle at all times, if you have a dog that you know to be a threat to other dogs or humans, you would have a duty to take measures to eliminate that threat before bring that dog into public. If that measure is a muzzle, then that's what must be done. As my post indicated, I believe strict enforcement would be exceedingly difficult and, perhaps, unnecessary (at least with respect to the muzzle requirement). However, a total lack of enforcement is dangerous and unacceptable. I think a little common sense goes a long way and I have confidence that those charged with enforcing the Village code could do so selectively. I understand that selective enforcement may be a concept that many feel uncomfortable with. However, just because the law requires a muzzle, that is hardly a reason to disregard it in its entirety and allow dogs with vicious propensities to roam around unleashed. I will leave it up to Village lawmakers to remove the muzzle requirement (and suggest that they do so) if that is what it would take to make people comfortable with the leash requirement.
