A Night of Strolling, Shopping, Singing & Santa
The sidewalks were filled, as were the stores and restaurants during the annual chamber Old Fashioned Christmas Village event.
Babylon Village store owners had a long day this past Friday, putting finishing touches on decorations, setting up special sales and display tables, and bracing themselves for the deluge of visitors who hit the village to enjoy the annual Old Fashioned Christmas Village event sponsored by the chamber of commerce.
was using the last few hours of daylight to fashion festive lights and greens on its façade just as Main Street began to clog with traffic—and it would only get worse as the event kicked off at 5 p.m.
Across the street it was a family affair as The Studio, New York was bustling with customers getting highlights, cuts and updos for weekend activities. Manager Chase Ognibene and Tommy Surland, master colorist, enjoyed some fun time with relatives as they took special care of a very special visitor, Tommy’s mom. The salon was playing Santa all night, handing out gift certificates ranging from $10 to $100 for lucky winners. Stop by there on December 6th as the studio is launching its own makeup line.

The REMAX office was finishing up getting cheese platters together and were raffling off a basket of kids supplies to benefit the First Presbyterian Church food pantry. Last year the real estate office held a special bike raffle to help a sick child.
Over at , Hapi Auer and helper Hector Ramirez were bagging cookies to sell, along with Glen’s famous T-shirts and were helping out with providing hot chocolate to the young singers and local chorus groups along Main Street and Deer Park Avenue. It was the first year Glen’s was doing an outdoor food sale event and it was a huge hit by the crowd hovering just an hour later.

Alan Howard was getting ready for a bigger than ever crowd of friends and family coming into ’ to enjoy the evening, and his children were helping out getting food and cookie platters ready.
The newly opened Tae Kwon Do school on Deer Park Avenue was offering a one-time special of $5 off two classes and $50 credit on any program sign-up made during the four-hour event. And visitors got a free trial class on the spot if they wanted one.
Boy Scout Pack 99 was once again selling wreaths. As one buyer exclaimed as she left, ‘these are beautiful and just $20!’
Santa arrived at 5:30 in a horse-drawn carriage and a few helper elves, and children flocked to ‘Santa Stops’ along Main Street and DPA to say hi and have a photo taken with St. Nick.
The weather made for a perfect night for strolling and shopping and grabbing a bite though there seemed to be waiting lists to get into most of the village eateries.
