The new Lindenhurst Aldi has been under construction for sometime, but on May 30, local residents will be able to shop the discount grocer.

A grand opening celebration will be held at 9 a.m. next Thursday at the store located just west of the Great South Bay Shopping Center on Montauk Highway. Following the ribbon cutting, Aldiofficials will hold an official public opening, product sampling and on-site sweepstakes. From 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., the store will also host a cookout with free hot dogs and refreshments.

The opening of the Lindenhurst store is the next step in Aldi’s expansion efforts on Long Island. The Germany-based discount grocery store chain currently operates stores in Bay Shore and Lake Grove and has more than 1,200 stores in 32 states.

Aldi works to keep costs low in an effort to provide shoppers products that are up to 50 percent less than traditional supermarkets, according to the company. Cost savings initiatives include a cart rental system, smaller store footprint, open carton displays and continual encouragement that customers bring their own reusable shopping bags.

Its selection of some 1,400 products largely consist of non-national brands and the company offers a double guarantee whereby Aldi will replaced the item and also give the customer his/her money back.
