Business Beat: Best Yet, Cheese 101, and Tequila

This week's roundup of what's going on in and around the Babylon Village business district.

For once, there are no stores openings or closures to report in this week's Business Beat. Babylon Village's downtown is far from quiet, however, with several events and community happenings on the calendar this month.

Best Yet will be coming to West Babylon. Long Island Business News reported today that the supermarket chain signed a long-term lease to occupy the site of the closed Waldbaum's on Sunrise Highway.

In case you've been intimidated by the wide selection of cheese from around the world at , the village fromagerie is offering a Cheese 101 night. The "introductory course in fine cheese around the world" will be held on Sunday, May 20th from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Stop in to inquire, or call 631-983-8804 for more information.

Don't forget, on Friday night the Babylon Lions Club will host the first . The junior varsity game starts at 5:15 p.m. at the Locust Avenue field. The Babylon High School boys baseball team will also play under the lights.

Natural Blendz, the smoothie shop that is slated to open next door to clothing boutique Ooh La La, appears to be inching closer to opening day, as construction has once again started on the small storefront. No word on a tentative date, but the smoothie and natural snacks shop has been working on the space since December 2011.

The is gearing up for Cinco de Mayo celebrations, and has christened this week Cinco Days of Cinco de Mayo. The restaurant is offering a promotional menu of specialty margaritas through Saturday night.

has launched a "private" invitation-only recurring event. Monday nights are now called "Private Mondays at Monsoon," and feature an open bar from 9 to 10 p.m., half off dinner, and a DJ. You can sign up by visiting the restaurant's Facebook page.

, the frozen yogurt shop on Main Street has a new name and a new product. Now called The Lite Choice, the store has the same owners but new proprietary desserts. According to the website for The Lite Choice, they offer low-calorie soft serve ice cream that can be customized with various flavors, coffee drinks, smoothies, and cakes.
