Business Spotlight: Gift Basket Shop Offers Items for any Occasion

Whether shoppers are looking to buy a gift basket, or just a unique gift, Nancy Kupferman is confident most shoppers will find the perfect item in her store.

The owner of Babylon Village Baskets and Gifts, which is located on Deer Park Avenue, said she was inspired to buy the business 18 months ago because she’s always had a creative background.

“I’ve done of lot of art over the years,” said Kupferman. “Sculpting, watercolors, ceramics. And I was once a hair stylist.”

Now, with the help of husband Howard, Kupferman spends her time styling one-of-a-kind gift baskets in a one-of-a-kind store right in the heart of Babylon Village.

“Of course we produce gift baskets, but what we’d like people to know is that they can also shop here for nice gifts. We stock a huge amount of giftware and specialty food items which can be purchased separately,” says Kupferman. “You can buy a hostess gift, a special occasion gift, a birthday present, and it doesn’t have to be part of a basket.”

The store brims with specialty items, including several exclusive lines.

“We carry Tea Forte, Thymes, Spartina, Mussels and More, and Mariposa,” said Kupferman, pointing to an ornate bowl with a brilliant luster.

“These Mariposa pieces are handcrafted from recycled materials. They shine beautifully like silver, but won’t tarnish, so they make wonderful gifts,” she added.

Kupferman picks up another piece of dishware. “The Mussels and More collection is also great for both display and everyday use. They’re dishwasher, microwave and oven safe, and they’re very attractively made.”

She turns the platter over to reveal an intricate design. “Even the backs of them are artistically-rendered,” she beams.

The merchandise in Babylon Village Baskets and Gifts is arranged in thematic displays for convenient shopping. Customers can find everything from unique food items to specialty lotions, handbags to picture frames.

And of course, any of these items can be combined to become an artfully arranged gift basket.

“We have both pre-made and custom-designed baskets,” says Kupferman. “We deliver all over the country. We make baskets up for lots of different occasions and to suit any tastes.”

The gift baskets are created for many reasons: holidays, birthdays, to honor special interests (such as golf or fishing), and for get well wishes, thank you, and sympathy, among others.

“Right now we’re getting ready to create our holiday display,” she said, looking over a sea of giftware choices.
