Coastal Island Treasures Closing Up DPA Storefront

Owner says he will continue to do business from soon-to-be revamped website.

Coastal Island Treasures, a gifts and stationary store that sells various gifts with nautical themes, will close up the Deer Park Avenue storefront by the end of the season, according to the owner.

Wally Levins, the owner of the business, announced the imminent departure from a physical storefront on the shop’s Facebook page on Friday.

“We have loved our time in the store here and have made a lot of wonderful friends, however it was time for a change,” Levins wrote. Levins also serves as the Babylon Village Chamber of Commerce’s Vice President of Special Events.

Coastal island Treasures had been in the village for over eight years, occupying one of the smallest, but most vibrant, storefronts on Deer Park Avenue next to the Village Basket.

“It’s really bittersweet because we have been here for eight years,” Levins told Patch on Friday. “I’m a resident here and what happens here in Babylon matters to me.”

Coastal Island Treasures will head online with much of their products, including more furniture, decor pieces and reproduction items.

In addition to a brand-new website in the future for Coastal Island, Levins said he will not disappear from the business district entirely.

“We fully intend to continue to service local customers on Long Island, we will do appointment showings, beach wedding gifts and décor and local area shows,” he wrote. “We will be showing locally for the holidays, stay tuned for info on that.”

The space where the shop is currently located, 61 Deer Park Avenue, will be available for a new business to move shortly after Coastal Island leaves later in the season. Levins said those interested in the space could contact the store and they would forward the information to the landlord.
