Cupcake Maker Seeks Village OK for Storefront Operation

Retail takeout operation is applying to open on Railroad Avenue and be in business by Halloween.

Babylon Village may soon be home for a sweet new business, called Cupcakes & Coffee, which hopes to move into the former dog grooming location on Railroad Avenue and open its doors by Halloween.

Village trustees will consider the business application at a hearing on Sept. 27, and if all goes as planned owner Garrison Gross hopes to have the take-out operation serving commuters and patrons a variety of coffees and its big sweet confections starting at 4:30 a.m.

This would be the company's first retail location and will offer pastries and gelato, a self-service coffee bar as well as oversized cupcakes with dozens of icing options.

Operation would be take-out only given the village’s current moratorium on new restaurants and eateries but Gross is hopeful to be able to offer a few tables for patrons down the road.

“We looked at so many other locations, did a year of research before deciding on this location as it has everything we need in terms of demographics,” Gross said. “There’s parking available, commuters, and the school right up the street."

The public hearing on the proposal will be on Sept. 27 at 7:30 p.m. at village hall.
