Deer Park Avenue to Close for Old Fashioned Village Christmas

Christmas in the village will be safer for pedestrians with road closure.

Babylon Village businesses are getting ready for this Friday's annual Old Fashioned Village Christmas, but this year's edition includes a new twist – a closed down roadway.

Much like the Spring Fling and Fall Festival events run by the Babylon Village Chamber of Commerce, this year's Christmas event will see Deer Park Avenue closed from Main Street up to James Street, according to chamber officials.

The closure of the roadway for the event, which begins at 5 p.m. Friday, will allow for a much safer environment as hundreds, if not thousands, flood into the downtown to enjoy the outdoor entertainment, snacks and local shops.

The popular event is easily one of the most attended in the village as businesses open their doors with special deals to passerbys.

With the closed street and added safety, even more people are expected to make one of the darkest, coldest nights feel like the warmest.

Santa Claus will ride up and down Deer Park Avenue starting at 5:30 p.m., being pulled on a horse-drawn carriage. Children will be invited into the carriage for a photograph with the holly jolly one.

The holiday tradition kicks off at 5 p.m. and lasts all evening through to 9 p.m.
