Long Island GLBT Community to Hold NY's Largest Mass Same-Sex Wedding Ceremony in One Week

To celebrate the love and commitment of all couples in New York, The Long Island GLBT Services Network, in conjunction with Carlyle on the Green, will be hosting New York's largest "mass" same-sex wedding ceremony and reception next Tuesday, July 26th on the grounds of Bethpage State Park.

The free event will be held at Carlyle on the Green at 12:00 noon, and will be one of the first ceremonies for hundreds of couples to participate in after the new marriage equality law has been passed.

"This is an historic time for us to celebrate as a community," said David Kilmnick, Chief Executive Officer of Long Island Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) Services Network. "This is chance for everyone to scream out at once "I DO" and have it mean something."

The massive civil wedding ceremony will be officiated by Dr. Beverly Boyarsky of Beacon of Light Ministry.  Dr. Boyarsky, who is an ordained interfaith minister and a NYC registered wedding officiant, is a well-respected member of the GLBT community and has been an outspoken advocate and volunteer for the Long Island community for over 20 years.

The new law goes into effect on Sunday, July 24, and some town halls are opening despite the weekend to issue licenses. State law requires a 24-hour waiting period between issuing the license and performing the ceremony.
