THREE CHEERS TO CELEBRATE 13TH ANNIVERSARY WEEK AT TELLERS: AN AMERICAN CHOPHOUSE

*50% Off Wine by Bottle or $10 Unlimited Wine by the Glass with $50 Prix Fixe Dinner

Tellers: An American Chophouse (www.tellerschophouse.com), the flagship restaurant of the Bohlsen Restaurant Group (www.brgroup.biz), celebrates its 13th year with three rounds of cheer starting with extraordinary wine deals and a three-course prix fixe dinner during August anniversary week, Monday, August 6 to Sunday, August 12.

ANNIVERSARY WEEK WINE SPECIALS

Once a year the full wine list at Tellers is half-price saving from $20 up to $1,000. Among the 8,000 bottles and one thousand labels is a diverse and imaginative selection from the world’s major wine regions. The inventory, valued at hundreds of thousands of dollars, is “kept safe” in the vault of the restored 1927 art deco bank building.

Beverage Director Paulo Villela notes the vast array of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon regularly under $150 from labels such as Bank Note, Robert Foley and Frank Family; and reserve vintages such as a 2001 from Harlan Estate regularly $1900.

He also points to a selection of Argentinian and Chilean wines, including Malbec that is regularly

$35 to $180, and what Villela believes “does the job if one is paying attention to value.”

“We have great steak wines from Spain such as the Rioja from Remirez de Ganuza, regularly $150, and a Tinta de Toro, regularly $60. Amazing Italian wines number more than 150 with 20 examples of Barolo regularly $90 to $600.

While the chophouse wine list majors on red wine, for those partial to white varietals, Villela points to a 2006 Coche Dury Meursault, regularly $315. He says, “I’d hate to see it go. It’s easier to get a dinner date with the President of France than it is to source this white Burgundy.”

On the list too are what Villela calls “the dream team of Long Island wine” from top producers such as Bedell, Borghese, Lenz, Macari, Paumanok, Peconic Bay, Raphael and Wölffer.

A tradition during anniversary week is unlimited refills of selected wine by the glass for $10. As well, for the first time at Tellers, building on Villella’s launch of it to Long Island two years ago at sister restaurant Verace, is wine on tap. For anniversary week, these will be a Napa Valley Zinfandel from Frog’s Leap and a Long Island Sauvignon Blanc from Raphael.

ANNIVERSARY WEEK MENU SPECIALS

The anniversary tradition continues this year with favorites chosen from the classic Tellers menu in a three-course $50 prix fixe dinner.  First course selections include shrimp and lobster wontons with hoisin glaze and mustard oil; or classic Caesar salad with traditional dressing, crispy croutons and shaved Parmesan cheese. Among the entrees are a choice of Tellers Delmonico Steak with crispy onions and truffle butter sauce; petit filet mignon with béarnaise sauce and natural jus; and pan-roasted Atlantic salmon with spinach, applewood bacon-potato hash and whole grain mustard. Dessert choices are freshly baked cinnamon streusel cheesecake with blueberry citrus sauce; and Tellers Fudge Layer Cake, a rich chocolate ganache with chocolate fudge.

TELLERS CHOPHOUSE (605 Main Street, Islip, NY, 631.277.7070 or www.tellerschophouse.com) resides in a renovated 1927 grand stone bank building from which it gets its name. From its 20-foot windows and art deco friezes, comprising what the New York Times says “to be one of the most strikingly beautiful dining rooms on the Island,” to the clubby Gold Bar, Board Room private dining room and walk-in Wine Vault, diners are transported to a time when superior service and quality were the norm.  Adds Zagat Survey, “The fantastic experience comes in part from its gorgeous setting . . . meatery mavens laud the exceptional steaks and to-die-for seafood as well as the outstanding service.” The classic chophouse menu with local seafood and sushi selections is complemented by a diverse and imaginative international wine list. A regular recipient of Wine Spectator’s Best of Award of Excellence, the list of 1,000 labels is part of an 8,000-bottle wine cellar “kept safe” in the once bank vault. Tellers is one of six dining establishments from The Bohlsen Restaurant Group (www.brgroup.biz) who own and operate the newly acclaimed Monsoon in Babylon Village; the Gold Coast harbor front Prime – An American Kitchen and Bar in Huntington; the vibrant H2O Seafood Grill in Smithtown; the chic and casual Verace next door in Islip; and neighborhood favorite Beachtree Café in East Islip.
