Irene Gets Her Own Drink at the Argyle

In honor of the impending hurricane a local bartendar whips up a new cocktail to commemorate the first big storm event of the season.

In just about two hours Babylon Village morphs into Friday happy hour mode and there's a new drink to be tried in honor of Hurricane Irene.

Patch went to one of the village's top, and most experienced, bartendars to ask the mixologist to create something unique in honor of the wicked weather to come Saturday night.

In true fashion the Argyle Grill and Tavern's Paul served up the perfect concoction.

Calling it the "Invisible Hurricane," the tall cold drink is simple, refreshing and satisfying. It's clear rum with a spritz of coconut juice and, of course, a juicy cherry.

Its name derives from the belief that the hurricane won't actually happen, which is Paul's prediction. He, like a few others enjoying lunch at the bar today, expressed exasperation at the lines for gas, milk and run on generators at local hardware stores.

"It isn't happening," said Paul when asked his prediction of what some believe could be the worst hurricane in two decades.

In regards to his new cocktail, Paul is just as emphatic in pointing out it can pack as big a punch as a hurricane gale force if taken past moderation points.

Patch can attest to that. In fact it gives new meaning to the phrase 'goodnight Irene.'

So stop by the Argyle this weekend and ask for the Invisible Hurricane and toast what will hopefully not be the storm some are predicting.

And remember, drive responsibly or don't drive at all. It's already dangerous on Long Island roads given the frenzy about the storm.
