Madame Butterfly Looking to Move Near the Docks

Custom cake shop could be headed just feet away from the bay if approved by village.

Having dessert at the docks might become a new Babylon Village tradition if one business gets approval from the village board.

A public hearing will be held for Madame Butterfly Cakes at Babylon Village Hall on November 12 to hear the case to move the business to a new location on Fire Island Avenue near the village docks.

The current high-end bakery is located on the same street, but less than 100 feet away from Main Street, at 22 Fire Island Avenue.

"We're moving forward with moving into larger space. It'll be a bakery cafe," a representative wrote on the company's Facebook page.

The new storefront would be located at 450 Fire Island Avenue, the site of the former Augie's Bait Shop and Trophy Tackle stores.

Fire Island Shave Ice recently opened a storefront next door, opening the options for sweet treats during summer sunsets at the docks if the bakery gets their wish.

The hearing will take place at Babylon Village Hall at 6:30 p.m. All members of the public are welcome to come and voice their opinions in favor or against the proposed move.
