New Train Schedules Take Effect This Week

Warm weather maintenance work includes new running rail on Babylon branch.

New Long Island Rail Road timetables take effect this week, continuing through September 11 and commuters should be aware of a slew of schedule adjustments on a number of branches as the railroad's maintenance program moves into high gear.

According to the MTA, the bulk of the work is scheduled for off-peak periods, such as midday during the week and on weekends.

This spring and summer, those projects include a new running rail on the Babylon branch, installation of new railroad ties on the Main Line and Far Rockaway branches, the replacement of third rail and the painting of a bridge on the Port Washington branch, and the resurfacing of switches on the Main Line and Atlantic branches.
