No Babylon Train Service This Weekend

Signal repair work at other stations means no trains leaving Babylon on Saturday or Sunday. Riders will have shuttle buses to Freeport for westbound travel.

Village residents planning to take a train westbound this weekend might want to jump on the Ronkonkoma branch or the north shore line as there is no train service out of Babylon Saturday or Sunday due to signal replacement work at Amityville and Wantagh stations.

The LIRR will be running shuttle buses between Freeport and Babylon and LIRR officials recommend that travelers plan on a half hour extra for travel time.

The signal improvement requires a 42-hour suspension of service beginning at 4 a.m. Saturday and going through 10 p.m. on Sunday, April 10.

The LIRR said the signal work will provide more reliable service when it’s completed.

Parking at the Babylon station may also prove challenging given the needed parking room for the shuttle buses, according to the agency.

Bus travelers from Babylon will be taken to Freeport, then transfer for train service to points west.

Babylon riders can take trains from Freeport, Hicksville, Farmingdale, Bethpage, Wyandanch and Deer Park. LIRR train service at these stations will be operating normally on the weekend.

Eastbound service will not be affected.

The LIRR has provided several traveling scenarios for train riders:

•Babylon & Bay Shore customers: Drive to Deer Park (Fare Zone 9), where weekend parking is available with no restrictions or fees.

•Islip - Speonk customers: Drive to Brentwood, Central Islip or Ronkonkoma (Fare Zone 10), where there’s plenty of free weekend parking, with no residency requirements.

Project and service information will also be available on the LIRR’s Facebook page and on twitter.
