Optimum Rewards Ending at Babylon Cinemas Soon

Clearview Cinemas acquisition ends relationship with former parent company Cablevision.

Theater-goers that have reaped the free and discounted tickets from Optimum Rewards will soon see that deal end as Clearview Cinemas prepares to be purchased.

Optimum and Cablevision, which currently still own the movie theater company, announced their intentions to end the free movie Tuesdays at the eight Long Island Clearview Cinemas theaters, including the one in Babylon Village, effective May 28.

Discounted tickets also available for Optimum customers will also expire effective May 31.

Clearview is in the middle of being purchased by a fellow movie theater chain, Bow Tie Cinemas, and the deal is expected to be completed by the end of June.

According to a release from Bow Tie Cinemas, the chain will acquire 41 theaters in the eventual deal with Cablevision and Clearview and plans to make "a substantial investment" in those locations, including digital projection, new concession stands and decorative upgrades. There were no details available, however, on the specific changes, if any, that would be made to the Babylon Village cinemas.

According to the company, Bow Tie is the oldest cinema company in the United States and currently owns and operates 22 movie theaters with 177 screens in five states. It operates two locations in New York; Schenectady and The Bronx.

According to Cablevision, Optimum Rewards will return with new movie deals and other offers "soon."
