Reader Feedback: National Wholesale Liquidators

As part of our Visions for Vacancies series, Babylon Village Patch wants to know your innovative ideas for vacant stores around town. See what your neighbors said.

On we challenged Babylon residents to give us their best idea for the large, vacant store where National Wholesale Liquidators had been. The West Babylon space in the Great South Bay shopping center inspired a lot of creative ideas. Many commenters wanted a health food supermarket, while others had retail fatigue and dreamed of an indoor ice skating rink.

Check out some of the highlights from the comments below and then vote for your favorite suggestion.

A few Babylon residents wanted a Walmart closer to home, while others thought the Kmart across the street already filled the bargain niche. There were a couple of votes for a Home Depot, while others requested a Dave and Buster's or a sporting goods store.

Eileen McCarthy had an intriguing non-retail idea.

"Community center for daycare/teen center/senior center. Plenty of parking and transportation. If I had won lotto that is what I would love to do for the area. No retail is needed."

Some residents wanted a recreation space, either a rollerskating rink or an ice skating rink. LindyMom wrote: "My daughter and I think United Skates should fill that space! However, I like the idea of an ice rink too!"

Ralph Somma agreed: "Ice skating arena. Nowhere in town of Babylon for kids to play ice hockey or learn to skate."

Whole Foods and Trader Joe's were popular ideas, with both natural foods chains receiving dozens of votes on our Facebook page.

CJ said, "Whole Foods and Trader Joe's are great ideas since there are none close to this area."

Finally, Jim Russo chimed in with perhaps a too-hopeful idea.

"Bunny ranch," was his suggestion.

What do you think? Do you agree with your neighbors or did they miss a genius opportunity? Vote in our poll below or add your own idea in the comments.
