Sakura Looking to Move Back in to Babylon

Sushi restaurant will make attempt to rent space across from former location.

A little over four months since Sakura Japanese Restaurant and its neighbor Nocturne were closed after their landlord reportedly ended their leases, the sushi hotspot is aiming to make a comeback in Babylon Village.

The Village of Babylon will hold a public hearing on November 12 to hear plans from the owners of the restaurant to open a brand new location on Deer Park Avenue.

Sakura Japanese Restaurant will be gunning for the vacant storefront at 94 Deer Park Avenue, formerly known as Food Mart, next to The Argyle and Horace & Sylvia's.

The location was previously brought up by interested parties in a public hearing for burger chain BurgerFi. The village denied their request for the site, noting a potential for a dramatic uptick in vehicle traffic on an already busy Deer Park Avenue.

Sakura and their bistro neighbor Nocturne closed their doors at 111 Deer Park Avenue in early July when a new landlord took over the building and ended the restaurants' leases.

A new sushi restaurant, owned by the same company that runs Ginza of Massapequa, plans to open their own sushi restaurant in the two spots.

The public hearing will be held at Babylon Village Hall at 7 p.m. on November 12. All meetings are open to the public for attendance and comments.
