The Lite Choice of Babylon Closes Up Shop

Main Street corner yogurt shop closes for good only a month after reopening.

The Lite Choice of Babylon, the yogurt shop located at the corner of West Main Street and Fire Island Avenue, has closed its doors again, this time it seems for good.

The storefront at 16 West Main Street was darkened this week, with the interior rather messy and a handwritten note on the door reading, "Sorry, we're closed."

The note directed store visitors to check out The Lite Choice's other franchises in Smithtown and Woodbury.

A call placed to the business' listed phone number was met with a disconnected message. There were no messages posted on the business' Facebook page concerning the closure.

The Lite Choice originally opened in May 2011 as D'Lites Emporium. It was later renamed under its new franchise as The Lite Choice and was regularly busy with customers through last summer.

The yogurt shop was closed for nearly nine months after its store owners were impacted by Hurricane Sandy at their home. A sign that hung on the closed shop then stated the owners intended to reopen the business in the spring.

The Lite Choice reopened, however, behind the originally intended schedule at the beginning of July, offering free samples and discounts as it opened its doors once again.

The closure leaves Babylon Village with one less dessert option. Yogurt lovers can turn to Sweet Frog Yogurt, Sweet Sensations of Babylon and Cold Stone Creamery for their local yogurt fix.

A "For Rent" sign was also posted in the shop windows. Those interested in the corner space can contact (516) 650-5460 for more information.
