The Monsoon's Opening Date is Getting Closer

The village's biggest eatery yet is likely just within weeks of opening.

Predicting an opening date for a new restaurant can be as tricky as speculating on when a weather event, such as a major snowfall or a monsoon in this case, may finally hit land.

But don’t worry, says the Bohlsen Restaurant Group (BRG), the Monsoon is coming very soon. The restaurant's location is the former Bank of NY building on Deer Park Avenue. It's a 9,500-square-foot space with 35-foot ceilings and offers up unique features such as an open view kitchen for diners eating on the second floor.

The Asian cuisine eatery was initially expected to open in early February, with some rumors having Valentine’s Day as the official launch date but that’s likely not the situation at this point.

"In the restaurant business, opening dates are projected many months ahead,” said BRG Co-owner Michael Bohlsen told Patch in an email. “It is business as usual to need a few more days or even weeks. We are in Babylon for the long run and want to exceed everyone's expectations from the start. Keep watching our website and Facebook page. Monsoon will be coming soon,” he said.

The restaurant’s impending opening was a topic of discussion at the recent Babylon Village Chamber meeting and among village residents at local watering holes and coffee shops.

A few weeks ago Patch was given an exclusive tour as work progressed and at that time Bohlsen said work was pretty much on schedule for a February openingl.

Last week BRG initiated a job hiring effort and the response has been strong, according to BRG.

”The job fair has been very successful, with many people from the village and more from the surrounding areas, applying for positions at Monsoon,” said Bohlsen.

"We are always looking for good people and will continuing hiring talented, outgoing and positive people well after opening night."
