For many Babylonians, the summer on the South Shore means one thing: spending as much time as humanly possible parked beachside. But what do you do when you run out of packed snacks and warm beer?

Thankfully, Babylon's town beaches are now equipped with a solution in the form of a couple of casual seafood and cocktail stands, where you can eat atop the second story deck and enjoy those salty breezes and a horizon-ending waterview.

and Overlook Beach both have Beach Hut locations, open from Memorial Day until Labor Day. It's summer, so dinner-in-a-basket is always a plus, and you'll be forgiven for getting your margarita in slushie form. There's also a raw bar with clams, and special "Lobster Fest" nights with drink specials after 5 p.m.

The Cedar Beach hut has live music at night, which can be loud, so choose your seat carefully if you want to converse.

Come early, stay late: you can find seaside subsistence from 8 a.m. until the beach closes and those last-few stragglers pack it in. Just don't mistake those lobsters for the ones on your plate.
