Village Puts Hold on New Eatery Proposals

A six-month moratorium is in place regarding new restaurants as officials assess parking and traffic in the business district.

The Babylon Village Board will not consider any new restaurant proposals for the next six months after approving a moratorium on dining establishments.

The decision will let the village assess traffic and parking conditions in light of the impending opening of a huge restaurant this year on Deer Park Avenue, according to village leaders.

The Bohlsen Restaurant Group’s new Asian fusion establishment, which got the green light from the village late last year, will open at the site of the former Bank of New York building and boasts dining room for 275 patrons.

A call to BRG regarding an opening date and restaurant name was not returned by press time. During a public hearing late last year both residents and village officials discussed potential parking and traffic issues.

“We want to sit with the planning board at this point and discuss ways to help traffic flow and see the impact of the new restaurant,” Babylon Village Mayor Ralph Scordino told Patch.  He does not expect the moratorium to have any negative business impact.

“We want to look into bringing more retail business into the village and hope to work with the chamber on that,” Scordino said.
