West Babylon Rental Club Opens Doors for Hurricane Victims

The Harbour Club gives Babylon family, others a home for the holidays.

After Hurricane Sandy left parts of Babylon Village heavily flooded and damaged, families were left to find new housing while their homes were repaired. Lucky for at least one Babylon family, a new place to call home was not too far away.

The Harbour Club, a rental community in West Babylon located near the Bergen Point Country Club, recently modified the terms of its leases to help accommodate families affected by Hurricane Sandy, especially those that needed to stay close to home.

"Luckily, the Harbour Club suffered minimal damage from Sandy," said Susan Barbash, managing owner of the community. "We were able to offer a safe haven to our neighbors who have been displaced by this historic storm."

"Our home suffered flooding, we feel so fortunate to have found the Harbour Club," Paulette Hanson said. "The apartment is spacious and the complex is beautiful." Hanson and her three children, Joey, Ava and Luke, were able to stay very close to their hometown and the childrens' schools.

"Our life is as close to normal as possible," she added.

To also help its new reisdents adjust to their temporary homes and the in-progress holiday season, the Harbour Club gave new tenants a "goody bag" filled with gift certificates from local businesses such as Gemelli’s Fine Foods, Glen’s Dinette, Cold Stone Creamery and Bed Bath and Beyond.

"We hope they will enjoy the advantages of living in a well-tended, beautiful apartment community while they rebuild," said Barbash.
