About 200 Outages Following Powerful Thunderstorm

200 LIPA customers are without power following a very strong thunderstorm that ripped through our area.

Update (August 10th at 3:20 p.m.) – LIPA is reporting all service in West Babylon has been restored. 

The Long Island Power Authority is reporting over 200 outages in the Babylon and West Babylon area following a severe thunderstorm that ripped through our area earlier.

As of a 2:33 p.m. update, LIPA was reporting 197 outages in West Babylon and as few as 13 in Babylon Village. The utility company is reporting the possibility of having lights back on in West Babylon as soon as 3:30 p.m., but as late as 8:00 p.m. for parts of the village.

The strong storms that ripped through the area brought flooding, torrential downpours and wind gusts upwards of 45 miles per hour. At one point during this afternoon's storm, a for Babylon after a storm cell was located on radar rapidly spinning. So far, no word has come from the National Weather Service concerning any funnels on the ground on Long Island.
