UPDATED: Advisories Issued Ahead of Late Winter Storm

Update: The National Weather Service has cancelled the Winter Weather Advisory for our area as the approaching storm is not forecasted to drop as much snow on Babylon Village.

New forecast ranges call for a dusting to an inch on Long Island after the storm is through.

The Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect for all of Long Island.

Original Story (3/24 at 4:54 p.m.): Old Man Winter will not give up on the 2012-2013 winter season – one more storm is still ahead for Babylon Village.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Babylon Village and the rest of Long Island through Tuesday afternoon ahead of a snowstorm.

The storm, approaching the east coast from the west, has been dropping snow across the midwest throughout Sunday, with some of those areas seeing about a foot of snow. Long Island will not see that kind of intense snowfall, but meteorologists are forecasting an accumulation of two to three inches, with some isolated spots seeing up to four inches.

Snowfall is harder to come by during the early Spring, as the sun's angle increase on the planet's surface, warming it more easily than during the Winter. A warmer surface does not allow for accumulation to occur as easily as it normally would in January or February.

A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect until early Tuesday morning for Babylon Village as well, as tides could be two feet above normal. Waves along the bay-facing areas are expected to be slightly above normal, but no where near the six to nine foot breaking waves along ocean-facing areas.

Winds are expected to be blustery, but not damaging during the storm at 15 to 25 mph and gusts to 35 mph possible.
