Babylon Town Officials Urge Caution During Nor'easter

No evacuation order issued, but officials say those with flood damaged homes should seek alternative shelter.

With a nor’easter forecast to hit Long Island Wednesday and into Thursday, Babylon Town officials are recommending that residents with houses that sustained flooding during Hurricane Sandy leave the area until the storm passes.

“We’re urging residents to exercise extreme caution and to take the storm seriously,” Tim Ruggeri, Town spokesman, said in an e-mail message.

However, Ruggeri told Patch that a broadcast report early Wednesday indicating that Babylon had issued a mandatory evacuation order for areas south of Montauk Highway was erroneous.

In addition, for those still needing basic supplies following Hurricane Sandy, a joint effort between several social service and non-profit agencies is offering critical services and items at Farmingdale State College. Among the items available are food, water, blankets, financial aid, legal advice, mental health care, Internet capabilities and other services.

The hurricane relief center is open daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and for those without transportation, free shuttle service is available at various locations across the south shore:
