Construction Begins On New W. Babylon Five Below Store

Another day, another new store for our area.

The Great South Bay Shopping Center will be introducing a new store later this year as discount chain Five Below gets ready to move into a new space.

Construction began at 943 Montauk Hwy. earlier last week at the former Avenue storefront. Workers have been busy inside putting up new walls, lighting and tearing down the storefront's awning.

Five Below, according to their website, is a "trend-right, extreme-value merchandise" store aimed at the teenage market. Items in the store sell for between $1 and $5.

The store will include items such as sporting goods, games, fashion accessories, jewelry candy and snacks, iPhone accessories, DVDs and books.

There was no official word on the business would be expected to open.

Five Below is hiring, according to signage at the West Babylon storefront. The store will hold open interviews at the location on May 17 through 19 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Five Below will replace the former woman's clothing store Avenue, which closed earlier this year.
